Is 45 minutes enough for an international layover at Detroit International Airport?
October 2nd, 2009 | by admin |I am hoping a frequent international traveler could answer this one. On August 26, 2009, I will be departing from Dayton (DAY) to Amsterdam (AMS). I will be having a 45 minute layover in Detroit. My question is will a 45 minute layover be enough time for me to get to my other flight on time?
Will my luggage make it to the other flight on time? Any assistance would be gr
No way. Nada. Never gonna happen.
Detroit has two terminals. North and McNamarra. Most regional flights land at the North Terminal and while physically getting to the McNamarra Terminal won’t be a problem, your baggage will never get off your Dayton plane and into the KLM plane.
Moreover, there is a suggested 2hr pre-flight arrivial time to allow for security screening.
Even if you ship your bags ahead of time, or even if you are going to carry everything with you, you will never get through security.
Your only hope is if you have International check in at Dayton. Maybe then you might make it, but don’t bet the farm.
Rebook your flight.

You should be in good shape as far as the time. And the baggage will be transferred in a timely manner; however, if the flight number changes between the time you book the flightr and the day of your trip, there could be a problem. That happened to me once going through New York’s JFK Airport. Be sure you check everything on the day of the flight.

You should be fine. It is not a terribly big airport, and I think since 9/11 they are pretty stingy about making sure luggage is on the plane with the person.
Just make sure to check the flight numbers and times and if anything seems off or delayed keep the airline informed, they often help you and change flights if needed, to make sure you get on time. Have a great trip!

You should be fine. The terminal at DTW for KLM is the McNamara and it’s just one long strip. There’s a train that runs through the terminal and I recommend you take it.
