I fell asleep during a phone conference again yesterday. How may I ask my boss to liven it up a little?
October 10th, 2009 | by admin |Why does he have to be so boring? He seems to have no consideration for the fact that I was out drinking all night before the phone conference and then he goes on for an hour about the P&L statement! What can I do?
I think asking him to install a webcam and do a stripper dance for you..that’s not too much to ask. Perfectly within reason… it would liven things up and increase your productivity! Go get ‘em….er….girl!

You might try not going out drinking when you must go to work the next day.

You could try asking him to threaten you with dismissal/the sack every couple of days or so. Or: how about introducing a little music to liven things up? I once heard a Victorian-era song that went something like, "Onaway, awake, beloved." That might suit the occasion. Not lively enough? I rather go for a song that’s called "Happy days are here again." That’s got quite a lively, bouncy sort of feel to it. It’s fairly obvious that the fault lies with your boss, and he’s got to change. Get him to choose conference subjects that appeal to you. Do you like humour in your phone conferences? One or two snappy jokes would do the trick. Get him to listen to Tom Lehrer’s sketch about phoning Sir Walter Raleigh in the New World. Now, that’s a phone conference that always has me laughing, no matter how many times I hear it. It might do wonders for your boss’s phone conferences. I’m running out of steam here, and I’m really desperate to solve your problem, you know. One final suggestion, then. How about if your boss allows you to choose the conference subject? You could confer about boring bosses, and how inconsiderate they can be, and how irrelevant the P&L statement is with regard to today’s global crisis (insert here a crisis of your choice). In short, it looks as if you are going to have to take over the reins, by fair means or foul, and make things go the way you want them to. Go for it!
