I’m going to an international health conference. Can I wear the same suit on multiple days?

November 25th, 2009 | by admin |

This is a rather high profile conference with over 30 representatives from different ministries of health. The conference is 4 days, and I want to look my best, but I have only 1 suit. For how many days can I wear the same suit?

Of course with different shirts (different colors and different ties), you might get away with it. You have perhaps have it pressed at the hotel or do it yourself, if you really KNOW HOW and don’t ruin it.

However, I’ll tell you, I bet you may see people in shirt sleeves after the first day and not being quite so formal. Don’t you at least have a sport coat that you could wear with slacks? You should have, and perhaps that would be a small investment off the rack. Bring at least 4 ties and 4 shirts, or plan to have the hotel launder one or two if they can do that quickly.

if it is for 4 days no way u can pull out the same suit. u may wear the same suit twice and change shirts and ties every day. so now it is time for u to buy a new suit! and do not listen to this idiot who said to wear smth else - conference=business suit. no other options

ps. o, god. U WILL NOT SEE PEOPLE IN SHIRTS. this is so rude and offensive, people never ever, i repeat NEVER wear shirts with ties without wearing the whole suit. well, mayby car salesmen do (as probably are both of those guys who answered first). but people at a conference and a high profile - never. and i suggest for future u also never do that. u may remove your jacket in your office or maybe at inside conference when u entered in it and just remove it if it is too hot. but walking in public in a shirt without jacket? in a business building? never happened

I think you can get away with it if you wear different shirts and ties each day. On the first and fourth day, you could wear a white shirt. I don’t know why it couldn’t be the same one, even. In between, wear a different shirt - pale blue or pale yellow, light gray, pin stripe - whatever goes with your suit. Wear a different tie each day. If you have a sports coat, wear it for one or two of the days. If there a nice consignment store in your city where you might pick up a smart looking jacket inexpensively?

I don’t know what part of the world Blast lives in, but here it would be quite acceptable to wear shirt and tie for at least one or two days. A sport jacket or blazer in addition to the suit would be a good idea though.

As long as you change your socks and underwear and change your shirt or blouse (not sure what gender you are, so covering all eventualities!) and accessories such as ties, 4 days is fine to wear a suit. Not everybody has enough money for more than one suit - unless they are top of the hierarchy in the medical profession!

You’ll be hard pressed to pull off a 4-day event with only one suit. Buy a sport jacket (blazer), they’re usually cheaper than a whole suit and another pair of pants and use them. You can do 2 days with each, alternating days of course. Bring extra shirts and ties if you have them. The other alternative is to make sure to take off the suit when you return to your room, let it air out on hangers and iron it every morning before the conference. Bring cologne too.
