Why do they have a east and west conference in the NBA playoffs?

It’s easier to get into the east conference than the west so why do they use the east/west conference in the playoffs?

    Not this year the East have more better record teams this year and have won the majority of the match ups. Also, just because a team has a better record doesn’t make them better.

    Look at last year the Cavs and Hawks took the Celtics to 7 games and the Lakers and Pistons 2 teams that had a better record than the Cavs and Hawks took them to 6 and suffered some blowout losses.

    East has 3 teams with less than 10 losses and West has 1. How do I have thumbs down. Pistons and Hawks have same records of Phoenix and Dallas. Not to mention every team in the East except 1has more than 10 wins and the West has 5 teams that are not over 10.

    because its more organized by using location and many other sports do similar playoffs rules like football,hockey,etc
    its laso easier for the teams since they wont have to travel long distant much plus east and west teams dont play eachother often so it wont provide experience

    umm… you have to have some sort of dividing teams.. in baseball its National and american.. in basketball its east and west.. theres gotta be some way to rank teams in their divisions.

    because there has to be some kind of method to seperate the teams. and the west hasnt dominate in the pas couple of years. the champions have been goin back and forth for the past couple of years.
