Roddick Interview v Federer Australian Open 07

September 1st, 2009 | by admin |

Andy Roddick’s hilarious post match interview after being destroyed by Roger Federer in what is said by many to be one of the best ever performances.

I did not edit this video. The music in the background was part of the video file I discovered a few years ago and I simply uploaded it.

Transcript of the interview:
Reporter: Have you ever played anyone so hot as that before?
Andy: He played well. I made some errors but he was definitely coming up with some shots tonight

Reporter: What was it like for you being on the end of that?
Andy: It was frustrating. It was miserable. It sucked. It was terrible. Besides that it was fine.

Reporter: What did JImmy (Connors his coach) say after?
Andy: He gave me a beer.

Reporter: Take us from 4-4 cause up til then you were in the match. Then you got broken.
Andy: Then I broken 3 more times. And 2 more times in the 3rd set and it was over 26 mintues later. Is that about what you saw too?

Reporter: How do you rate Haas’ or Gonzalez’s chances in the final?
Andy: Slim.

Reporter: You said the gap between you and Roger wasn’t getting any wider. In future if you think that will you keep it to yourself?
Andy: No. It’s honestly how I felt. Im not gonna kick my own . It’s not gonna happen. I’m gonna try to keep fighting, keep working. I’ll try to take this like a man; he outplayed me, he played a lot better than I did. He deserves all the praise that he gets, not only for how he plays but for how he hanldes himself off court. I’ll get up tomorrow and look forward.

Reporter: What did Jimmy say? US Open he got on a real roll too. Did you talk about what to do if Roger got on a roll, change strategy, slow it down?
Andy: There’s a lot of strategy talk. but not if you’re down 6-4 6-0 2-0. We didn’t really talk about that. Oops.

Reporter: You’re performance on here is better than on court.
Andy: No . If there were rankings for press conferences I wouldn’t have to worry about falling out of the top 5 I hope.

Reporter: After a defeat like this do you sleep well?
Andy: Depends how much I drink tonight.

Reporter: How much would you have paid in order to not have to come to the press conference tonight?
Andy: That’s about the best question that’s been asked. Well I can’t really say an amount cause I would have gotten fined 20 thousand dollars (for not coming to the press conference). So it would have to be less than that, right? If we’re thinking logically? But it wouldn’t be about the money. It would be about running away and not facing it. I would pay a lot of money if people would make stuff up and pretend I said it. But my dad didn’t raise me like that so here I am

Erm yes he was. Roddick had given an honest (if wrong) essment of his game at that time and the journalist effectively told him to “keep his mouth shut” about it

Enter “Zednik Jokinen” on the youtube video search. You’ll find a video named:

This is the ESPN report I think.

His face always looks like he’s thinking:
WTF do you think? on each question. Can’t blame him, most of these questiosn were actually pretty stupid.

But the trophy goes to a question asked to Olli Jokinen after he accidentally cutted Zednik’s throat during a NHL game.

    Reporter:
How scary was that for you?

    Jokinen:
What do you think? What kind of *ng question is that?

If they are sutpid with Roddick when he plays Federer, how stupid was this?

I didn’t know he dislike interviews sooo much :-) On the other hand I wasn’t surprised either. Just let him go guys and let him have his beers with federer :-)
Anyway, he has a true sports man attitude but he ’s funny at the same time although he is not toying :-)
