i feel useless..help..? ;( be nice!?

ok, so this is a rant and a question of course. i hope answerers would not judge or jeer me but rather help me in this difficult adolescent stage.
i am 16 yo. and next year will be my last school year. unfortunately i feel as though i have made no mark whatsoever in my life. my future is being shaped right now but i feel that ive barely done anything to control it. i am not a popular student. i am not exceptionally excellent in my studies either. i dont fail my subjects but i dont get flying colours which bothers me because my school is a premier school. everybody HAS to excel.
moreover i am not active in curricular activities. i dont do debate, sports or anything like that. so far ive accepted this as an imadequacy of mine. but now, i think its more of a weakness.
m not attractive either but honestly this doesnt bother me too much. i just hope one day someone will love me for me ;(
another thing is i am a procrastinator. i can never do my homework/assignment on time and it bothers me to bits. im easily distracted by the internet or other media.
another thing is i would love to get involve in international relations. you know, reporting from other countries or attend global seminars. i watch those news channels CNN,BBC AJE to gain more interest but somehow my family does not support me too much.

my question is…(finally..)

1) what can i do to boost my confidence before the start of my next semester?
2) how can i convince myself that its ok to not be as good as everybody else who can debate, write well, have better social lives etc?
3) i am interested in IR like i stated above because i think i am not good at anything else. so how can i ameliorate this interest so that one day i can acheive my goals? i like to write articles on current events, discuss global issues…but somehow i think i am building castles in the air..

i know this may be some sort of stupid question, but please be nice. dont take advantage of the 2 points given..im already a depressed person here…

If you are interested in IR - go for it. It looks as if you are good at a lot of things! You write well - you could be an editor, journalist - anything really.
I never participated in any sports or programs in high school, either. Whether or not you were popular, pretty, or on the debate team… None of that will matter a couple years down the road.
Dont worry about it !
Life is too short to be worrying about being "as good" as others.
Dont try and live up to anyone else’s expectations - besides your own.
Focus on your studies- try to practice self discipline while studying. Stay away from television and try to stay off the internet.

You can boost your confidence by the start of the new semester by changing your attitude. Be positive- Only you, can get you, to where you would like to be - in life.

Everyone is different and everyone has there opinions about themselves. Maybe, you should sit down and think of the positive things about yourself and not the negative. I’m the same way little things distract me and get between me and my studies, but in the end I do fine. So, just think to yourself, what am I really capable of doing and set your mind to it.

    Good Luck!

If your one area of interest is international relations, why don’t you consider becoming an exchange student for a semester or two? If your only language is English, there are many primarily English speaking countries all over the globe that would be ideal opportunities for you. If you are bilingual, even more opportunities exist.

If your interest is in international relations, why wouldn’t you like debate
or politics, maybe school newspaper (if you have one) or yearbook articles? Not really a lot to offer in high school related to that is there?
You have ideas for a career, goals, reach for them. Many people have graduated and are in college or working some dead-end job don’t have any ideas or goals in life! Go for what you want!

I was very similar to you when I was in High school. In fact I could have practically written the above. As I have gotten older I have learned to just be me and have found that I can highlight my strengths and use them to my advantage. Also, some of the traits above (procrastination) that I used to have- I no longer have. So as you grow older you’re going to change.

You don’t want to hear my long story but now I’m successful in my job- it’s not one I particularly like so I’m going to college to get a degree in something I will enjoy doing. (I’m 37- so no matter the age, pursuing goals and dreams shouldn’t end). Currently I’m a recruiter and I look for candidates, source on job requirements etc. There are so many jobs out there that would highlight your strengths- and believe me you have a list of strengths longer than your list of weaknesses.

    1) Ways you can boost you confidence- list your strengths and
    interests.
    2) You are unique and have you own special gifts and talents. You don’t need to be like anyone else and you’re definitely as worthy and valuable as everyone else in this world!
    3) A degree in International Relations, Communications, Politcal Science ect.

I recommend taking a career assessment test. You can do this through your high school, local college or there might be one on-line. This test will help highlight areas of strengths which can better help you determine what course of action you should take. Also, you can go to Career Builder or Monster and look up different types of positions and their job descriptions to get a better idea of what’s out there! This is an exciting time for you- you’re young, you have the world at your fingertips and your options are boundless!!

Hope this helped and good luck on your furture endevours!!

You know i went through the same thing it’s just part of growing up it took me about 3 years to pardon the pun get my ass in gear, the only thing i can tell you is to find out what makes you happy. what is it that you like if you don’t know then find out try new things not drugs or any thing like that but just get your self out there a see the world, for me when i was 18 i just woke up one day and decide to move so i did , it was hard but the experience that i had helped me to find my true love and helped me to understand how the world works. Some thing else i would recommend would be to volunteer at a homeless shelter or an old age home i know it might sound like a drag but you can learn a lot from these people. don’t get depressed your are only 16 you are not going to have the answerer’s to every thing don’t worrier about what everyone else is doing or what you are not doing just do what makes you happy and never give up on your goals.
